I never used to eat breakfast. I got up at o-dark-hundred to get down to the restaurant to start the day and never even thought about sitting down to a morning meal. I usually subsisted on coffee till around mid morning and by that time I'd been up for hours.
I worked myself and my poor little body into not such great shape, so in order to treat myself better I've been feeding my body the nutrients it craves. This is the smoothie I fix myself each morning to go along with some sprouted wheat toast or cereal or eggs and bacon or whatever else I decide to fix for breakfast. It's loaded with nutrition and it has done wonders to help me get myself back to better health. I always prefer fresh fruit vs. frozen fruit as I believe the fresh is more nutritious, but during some seasons It's not always possible to have fresh.

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1/4 cup whey or hemp protein powder (better for you than soy)
1/3 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
1/3 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
4 or 5 medium fresh or frozen strawberries
1 medium banana
1/3 cup fresh pineapple chunks
1/3 cup yogurt -- plain, no sweeteners
1 packet Stevia or Xylotol sweetener
1/2 cup orange juice, not from concentrate
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon fresh ground flax seeds
Throw everything in the blender and blend till very smooth. Super easy and super nutritious. You can play around with this recipe. Subtract fruits, use different fruits, leave out the orange juice, add yogurt, there are lots of variations possible. Just make sure the ingredients are as high quality as you can find.
Here's some tips:
I buy a bunch of bananas and peel them and put individual bananas in a fold over sandwich baggie and put them in the freezer. It's the best way to have a nice ripe and sweet banana without it going too ripe. Plus, the frozen banana makes the smoothie colder. I like mine cold.
When fresh cranberries are in season freeze a bunch for when they are out of season!! The cranberries give your smoothie a bit of zip, and cranberries are high in anti-oxidants.
Buy whole flax seeds and grind them fresh so that you don't lose any nutrients. I have a coffee grinder that I use strictly for seeds and spices and I grind enough flax seeds to do for a few days
and keep them in the refrigerator so that they don't lose any nutrition. Look up the benefits of flax seeds, they are really good for you. You can also sprinkle ground flax seeds on your salads or cooked vegetables and use them in salad dressings. They are nutty and yummy.
