I served these baked beans as a side dish whenever I served BBQ dishes. Someone gave me a recipe for this kind of baked beans years ago and I adapted it to my own way of doing things. I think my version is way superior. But please, feel free to do your own thing as well. For instance, if you want them to be more vegeterian, leave out the ground beef. Vary the beans according to your tastes as well. If butter beans turn you off, use pinto beans or white beans.

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1 pound hamburger -- cooked and drained
4 ounces bacon -- cooked and drained
1/2 large green pepper -- chopped
1 medium onion -- chopped
1 can baked beans, whichever brand you like
1 can black beans -- drained
1 can butter beans -- drained
1 can kidney beans -- drained
1 cup catsup
1 cup brown sugar -- or less if desired
2 teaspoons yellow mustard
1. Brown hamburger, drain to remove as much grease as possible.
2. Cook bacon till just crisp, chop and set aside.
3. Saute onion and green pepper in bacon drippings.
4. In large bowl combine all above with the beans.
5. Put beans in a casserole dish.
5. Mix together catsup, mustard and brown sugar and spread on top of casserole.
Bake at 350 for one hour till beans are bubbly and the top is browning.
