A good tomato soup is hard to beat. This one is rich and fills your mouth with that ripe tomato and herb flavor.
Can't beat a bowl of tomato bisque and a grilled cheese sandwich!!

4 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion -- chopped
1 stalk celery -- finely chopped
1 clove garlic -- minced
4 large ripe tomatoes -- peeled, seeded and chopped
1/4 cup fresh basil -- chopped
1 sprig fresh thyme -- or 1 T dried
1 teaspoon oregano
2 quarts chicken stock
1/4 cup red wine
1 cup half and half
1. Saute onion and celery in butter add garlic. Saute till translucent and tender, do not brown. Puree.
2. Add tomatoes, basil, thyme, oregano wine and pepper. Simmer.
If you cannot find good ripe tomatoes, use some canned Italian plum tomatoes.
3. Puree if desired to be totally smooth. Add cream and heat but do not boil.
